A private graveside service for Walter Sturm Avery, 85, of Kendal at Granville will be held in Maple Grove Cemetery, Granville. Mr. Avery, who was an attorney and General Counsel for Geigy Pharmaceuticals, Mobil Chemical Co., and Counsel to Mobil International Oil Companies, died Feb. 5, 2007, at Kendal. He was born October 18, 1921, in Paris, France, to the late Harriot (Sturm) and Walter Lindsay Avery, formerly of Columbus. Mr. Avery's work involved international travel and a 20 year residency in London, England. A member of the American Bar Association and London Law Society, Mr. Avery was a 1943 Magna Cum Laude graduate of the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University. He was a 1949 graduate of Harvard Law School. During WW II, Mr. Avery served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Statistical Control Officer. Surviving are his wife Priscilla Grismer Avery, formerly of Oak Park, Ill., and Chicago, whom he married in 1969; daughter and son-in-law Anne A. and Leslie Patrick of Sausalito, Calif.; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Charles H. and Barbara Avery of Oxnard, Calif.; and one sister, Bette Applegate of Annapolis, Md. The McPeek Funeral Home in Granville is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 151 Lake Street, Lancaster, Ohio 43130-2589.
