A mass of Christian burial for William A. McCabe, 76, of Granville, will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 785 Newark-Granville Road, Granville with Monsignor Paul P. Enke officiating.

Bill died August 22, 2007 at O.S.U. Medical Center in Columbus. He was born October 14, 1930 in Corning, Ohio to the late Francis and Catherine (Bennett) McCabe. He retired as a Captain in 1989, after 34 years of service with the Columbus Division of Fire.

During the Korean Conflict, Bill served in the U.S. Air Force in South America.  He was a cartographer and his unit was the first to make maps of the mountains and oceans which were later used for the space program.

Bill was an active member of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic minister. He was also a member of C.F.D. Unit 4.

Bill enjoyed traveling and camping with his family. His love of carpentry lead him to build the family home with his son, Shawn. He also enjoyed sailing his 102 year old Class "C" sailboat.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Monna R. (Allison) McCabe; sons, Patrick Shawn (Robin) McCabe, Stephen (Melissa) McCabe; daughters, Susan McCabe, Sheri (Jim) Westlund, Brenda (Carlos) McCabe de Sanz, and Laura (Jim) Walser; 11 grandchildren; sisters, Eileen Hodson and Mary Ann (Ray) Temple.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by one son, William Jay McCabe, one brother, and one sister.

Friends may call Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the church where a vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m.. The McPeek Funeral Home in Granville is assisting the family with arrangements.
