William “Bill” Sperry III, passed away Friday, December 13, 2024. He was born April 13, 1951, in Summit, New Jersey to the late Peter and Jean (Leonard) Sperry.
Bill is a 1969 graduate of Staples High School in Chicago, Illinois and a 1974 graduate of Denison University. During his time at Denison, Bill became a brother of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and was a member of both the Denison Big Red football team as a linebacker and the club rugby team.
Before returning to Granville following his graduation from Denison, Bill worked for Mobil Oil out of Boston, Massachusetts. Upon returning to Granville, he worked for Fackler Kubota Tractor before ending his working career as the Associate Director of Financial Aid at Denison University.
Within the community, Bill was a member of the Elks Lodge and had volunteered his time within Pack 3 of the local Cub Scouts and Troop 65 of the Boy Scouts while his son was a member, which, at one point, becoming Scout Master of the Troop. He was known in the community as a “really nice guy” and quick to lend a hand.
As a husband and father, Bill was soft spoken, loving, and a person his children continue to emulate in their adult lives. He took great joy in the interests of his children, loved riding horses with his wife, and was one of the few people that actually enjoyed fruit cake.
In addition to his parents, Bill is also preceded in death by his older brother, Peter Sperry.
Bill is survived by his wife of 43 years, Beth A. (Ludwick) Sperry; two sons, Peter Thomas Sperry (and his spouse Amanda Sternberg) of Seattle, Washington, and Joshua William Sperry of Denver, Colorado; and sister, Elizabeth (Sperry) Kilnes of Denver, Colorado.
Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite Licking County 4-H Club.
